I hope that everyone had a restful April Vacation. As of mid-week, we will hit the two month’s left in the year mark. Students are currently working on the Controversial Issue Project 2014. This is a major research project that students will be working on for the next four weeks. Students already have their topics and have been doing research on the topics, and also learned how to write bibliographies (using an online tool called Noodle Tools). Please consider taking your child to a public library (outside of school) to look for books on their individual topic. We have access to technology in school (computers and iPads), but there is nothing like a good ‘ole fashioned book. Like I tell students, why search billions of web pages when a book might exist that someone already researched and spent a great deal of time writing. The projects will conclude on Tuesday, May 27, which is also the night of the spring concert and spring open house. This way, parents will have the opportunity to check out the projects that evening. While students will be doing a lot of this in school, some work will be expected to be done at home as well depending on particular project choices that students make.
