On Friday I took a group of students from this class to the Junior Achievement Partners In Achievement Breakfast at the Hartford Marriott. They served as ambassadors for the event. In addition, since Junior Achievement is celebrating their 100th anniversary next year, CPTV was filming the event for a future documentary, and they got a lot of footage of students greeting the 640 people who attended the event.

On Friday we are going to the Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry. Students should bring a lunch and drink. Lunches can be packed in regular lunch bags – they don’t need to be disposable. They won’t be carrying them around much at all and there’s a place to store them.

I hope that everyone had a nice vacation week off with the kiddos. By the end of this week, we’ll be down to less than two months in the school year.

With the American Revolution speeches over, our focus right now will be on our book of short, short stories that students are writing. We have 20 percent of the school year left so it’s time to get busy!

There is a half day on Friday due to teacher professional development in the afternoon. This half day leads right into the week off for April vacation.

The American Revolution speeches are this week. I e-mailed parents and students a list of all the speech days/times, which are on Wednesday or Thursday. Parent/Guardians will be invited to come watch their child’s speech.

There is no school on Friday in honor of Good Friday.

The American Revolution speeches are next week. I e-mailed parents and students a list of all the speech days/times. Students were introduced to the American Revolution Famous Person Speech about a month ago. After a lot of research and learning how to write a speech, last week they started writing the actual speech. Mr. Spencer came in last week to talk to the class about public speaking, and this week I have two more adult guest speakers coming in to talk to students about public speaking.

Each student was assigned a famous person from the American Revolution time period. If they didn’t like the person they were assigned they were able to change him/her, but it is now too late to make any changes. Each student will dress up as, and give a 3-5 minute speech as the historical figure. Speeches are on Wednesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 5. Parent/Guardians will be invited to come watch their child’s speech.
