We should just about finish the second half of the Volume and Measurement unit in math – the measurement portion. The test will most likely be early next week.

Students finished up their last science unit with Mrs. Ruzsbatzky, and they will begin the next unit with Mrs. Richmond tomorrow. The permission slip/money for the Old State House trip is due on Tuesday. This week is also the switch from Library to Health class. This means that instead of going to Library class once a week, students will go to Health class once a week for the remainder of the year. Finally, our first grade book buddies from Pine Grove will be coming over to visit us on Friday.

We are currently on the second half of the Volume and Measurement unit in math – the measurement portion.

Last week, students had the opportunity to hear about a unique pilot program that Thompson Brook will be starting in a couple weeks. Enrichment Clusters are classes that students will take based on their individual interests. These clusters will be taught by all teachers here at TBS, and students could be in a class with students throughout the entire school. Last week they had a chance to choose four of these clusters (such as website design, learning about wildlife, sign language, coding, engineering, acting, and dozens of other choices), and they will be assigned one based on their interests. These will run once a week for a total of seven sessions.

There is no school on Friday or the following Monday to make this upcoming weekend a four-dayer.

This week, we will be continuing the Volume and Measurement unit in math. Students will also continue to present their World Food Fest Google Slides, which they started to share with the class last week. Finally, they will keep working on their Colony Brochures, which is a project we began last week.

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a restful week off.

Students finished off the year with a bang – we had the grand opening of our class store, we participated in the Hawk Education Day at the University of Hartford, and we had our World Food Fest. Students took the Unit 4 math test right before vacation so we’ll start with a fresh math unit on Tuesday.
