Reading
Students will do a variety of reading, including reader’s workshop, read-alouds, short stories, and novels. This class will focus on skills, book groups, and Reader’s Workshop. One of the biggest changes with the Common Core State Standards in Language Arts is the increased emphasis on non-fiction reading and cross-curricular reading. This means that we will focus even more on reading in subjects like science and social studies as well. Like most subjects, the curriculum has changed and is still in the process of being written. Reading will incorporate social studies so all the history students cover will be taught through language arts.
