We are coming off of a short week and now we are back to a full five days. I hope that everyone had nice Easter or Passover family time. Students were introduced to the American Revolution Famous Person Speeches several weeks ago. The speeches will take place next week and parents are invited to come listen to their child’s speech. More specific information on a time window will be given so you could come in for your child’s speech and not have to sit in the class for the entire morning. I will e-mail that list out this week. Last week we focused on the actual writing of the speech and how students take information from their research and make that into an interesting speech. We even had a guest speaker, Mr. Gleason, come in to speak to the students about speaking and giving presentations. Each student was assigned a famous person from the American Revolution era. If they did not like the person they were assigned they were able to change it (with my approval). The deadline for changing the assigned person has passed. The assignment is to write and give a 3-5 minute speech in the “first person.” That means students should actually pretend they are the famous person and dress up as that person, too. The speeches will be on Thursday, April 11 and Friday, April 12.

We have a four-dayer this week. Students have a half day of school on Thursday and then no school on Friday. Students were introduced to the American Revolution Famous Person Speeches a couple weeks ago. This week were are going to focus on the actual writing of the speech and how students take information from their research and make that into an interesting speech. Each student was assigned a famous person from the American Revolution era. If they did not like the person they were assigned they were able to change it (with my approval). It was nice seeing all of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences last week. Although there are no more official conferences this year, always feel free to contact me if there are any questions or concerns. The adjusted CMT schedule is below – the last day of testing is the Science test on Monday, March 18.  Students were introduced to the American Revolution Famous Person Speeches a week ago. Each student was assigned a famous person from the American Revolution era. If they did not like the person they were assigned they were able to change it (with my approval). The deadline for changing the assigned person was last Friday, though. The assignment is to write and give a 3-5 minute speech in the “first person.” That means students should actually pretend they are the famous person and dress up as that person, too. They will have four weeks – the speeches will be on Thursday, April 11 and Friday, April 12.

We completed Week #1 of CMTs with a bit of a hiccup with the snow day on Friday. The adjusted CMT schedule is below – it pushes the testing into next week with the Science test on Monday, March 18. Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week – mostly on Thursday and Friday. Both of those days are half days for students. If you need a reminder when your conference is click here. Students will be introduced to the American Revolution Famous Person Speeches on Monday. Each student will be assigned a famous person from the American Revolution era. If they do not like the person they were assigned they can change it (with my approval). Most of the famous people are men. That’s because women of the time period have limited info and are often harder to research. If you find otherwise (and students have in the past), go for it. The assignment is to write and give a 3-5 minute speech in the “first person.” That means students should actually pretend they are the famous person and dress up as that person, too. They will have four weeks – the speeches will be on Thursday, April 11 and Friday, April 12.

So, here it is – March. Spring is knocking ever so gently on our doors, but the CMTs are pounding their fists on the doors. The Connecticut Mastery Tests (CMTs) begin on Tuesday. See below for a full day-by-day schedule. Getting to bed on time is essential for students the next couple of weeks and arriving to school on time is also important. Testing begins the same time each day and all late students are ushered into the gym where they have to wait until the end of testing at 10 AM (and then make up the test another day). Conferences are next week – if you have not already signed up please do so ASAP.
