We finished Unit 6 in math last week, and students will take the test on Wednesday. I will hold an in-class review session on Tuesday, and then an optional, extra review session before school on Wednesday at 7:30 AM.

Students will be introduced to the Controversial Issue Project 2016 on Monday. Students have their own copy of the packet, but you could check it out on here as well. You could also see all the details on the website – www.controversialproject.weebly.com. In a nutshell, students will decide on a topic, and then create/produce either a website, a documentary, or a research paper. Each student will also create a tri-fold poster (visual) of their topic. The entire project is due on May 24.

This week is our third week of Writing Boot Camp. Our team (Team 5-2) is doing a six-week course in writing where we are covering the six traits of writing – Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions. The 90+ students on our team were assessed and then broken up into six mixed groups. Each week, the group meets with a teacher for an hour on both Mondays and Fridays, focusing on one trait (per week). The next week the group will rotate to a new teacher.

On Friday, students took part in a very interesting Junior Achievement lesson. Several parents came in to talk to the class for a session called “What do you do all day?” A wide variety of jobs were described and students had great questions.
