Myself and a few of my former students appeared on the season premiere of the Better Connecticut television show on September 12 talking about the book students wrote last year.
One of our recent Writer’s Workshop projects was to create a simple rhyming poem. Students took that poem and made it into an online poetry book. Each student then posted it on his/her blog. Below is Jade’s poem.

In writing, we have been working on how to start introduction paragraphs (for expository) in a catchy, interesting way. Last week, students all wrote a few sentences as if they were starting an essay about ice cream. Then they typed up those sentences, made a Voki cartoon including the words, and posted it to their blog. Below is an example of Alysen’s Voki – she actually recorded her own voice speaking about ice cream.
